Shayne NeumannThis Labor politician is another one who toes the Party line. Labor has shown it has no regard for the welfare of military superannuants. The promises they made prior to the 2007 election were just lies to get our vote. Tony Ryan is right. If CPI is so appropriate, why don't Labor adopt CPI as the indexation formula for all pre 2004, parliamentary pensions? The Matthews report is seen as a quick and poor solution designed to give this Labor Government the answer they wanted. Matthews was engaged by Nick Sherry, who was a mate of David Harris, who assisted Matthews to prepare his report. Senator Sherry had a previous visit to the UK (fares and accomodation) paid for by Harris. This has led to questions being asked about the transparency and probity of Matthews being engaged. The National President of the Defence Force Welfare Association wrote to the Prime Minister many months ago asking for clarification on this matter. Despite several hasteners for a reply, no response has been made by the PM. If the Matthews engagement was above board, why won't the Government be transparent and accountable on this issue? One thing is for sure. Military superannuants will be voting liberal this year. A number of their party members have given commitments to address military super indexation, if they are elected to Government this year.2010-05-28 11:35:35JohnGriffiths
Shayne NeumannMr Neumann would not advocate parliamentary pensions being indexed to the C.P.I. because he, like the rest of us, knows he would be worse off. As for his comment that "Superannuation is one aspect of the total remuneration package available to ADF members", that takes no account of the inequity which exists currently in respect of retired members.2010-05-25 22:00:53TonyRyan
Shayne NeumannLast sentence in my post above should read "CONVINCE ME THERE IS ANY EQUITY IN THIS"2010-05-25 21:52:13TonyRyan
Shayne NeumannTwenty three years service, retired in rank of Warrant Officer. Entitlement 38.5% of Military Pay at time of discharge in 1981, after contributing 5.5% of pay from age 18 to age 40 at discharge. Indexed to C.P.I. Increase in amount between 1989 - 2008 shown as 68% as against 110% increase in Age Pension over same period. Now that is "unique". We sit and see politicians receive disproportionate retirement benefits regardless of whether they have made any meaningful contribution to our country. Convinced me there is any equity in this.2010-05-25 20:58:23TonyRyan
Shayne NeumannWhy on earth doesn't this man advocate using CPI to adjust Parliamentary pensions??2010-05-25 11:04:08RodneyRoss
Shayne NeumannMr Albanese, if you're so convinced that the Goodna Bypass is so bad then why won't you encourage the state government to sell back the resumed land corridor? I'll tell you why, its because your phony upgrade won't cater to the growth of Ipswich. Labor's so-called upgrade will take longer to complete because they'll be pouring cement on the Ipswich Motorway whilst people are driving to work. The Goodna Bypass was to be built on greenfield sites. The Goodna bypass added an extra six lanes (upgradeable to eight). Your pithy little bypass Mr Albanese only provides two. The Ipswich Motorway is already taking above the maximum capacity for a six lane road even though it has only four. Ipswich needs two roads connecting to Brisbane and the federal highways. Messrs Neumann, Albanese and Ripoll are to blame for not making that happen. This is a disgrace, but it is what you should come to expect from a Prime Minister (Rudd) who as a Goss Government (Qld) senior bureaucrat stopped the construction of the Wolfdene Dam - and now Queensland is on extreme water restrictions. Australia's progress slowed down the day after November 24, 2007. Ross Grove Greystanes2008-06-29 22:49:06RossGrove
