What TV should I bring to India?
Should I bring a new Tv and Which TV to india?
These are some Qs I had before coming to india.
Hope this helps someone.
Unlike other electronic items, TV has one more factor while considering its portability.
Power supply change from 220V to 110V
TV input PAL/NTSC.
in india PAL is used. These days converters from PAL to NTSC are available for cheap(5000/-?).But with loss of some data.(why buy big TV with loss of data kind signal)
Also most(50%) of the SET-top boxes are configurable to give NTSC output. They are better than using a converter.
Most (100%) of LCD LED tvs sold in USA are not compatible for PAL signal. (including VIZIO -- someone told me VIZIO TVs are compatible for PAL).
Some large LEC/LED tvs from VIZIO support 240-110 V power supply (like all laptops).
If you want to bring your other accessories like VCR,DVD players etc ... plan a big converter for voltage.. and live with NTSC in india.
If you plan to bring a TV with size less tha 45inch... reconsider. It will be cheaper to buy in india.
If you buy in india, you can expect service.
If you have to use power converters, be sure of Wattage. (ex: 50W/ 200W) Otherwise you may experience smoke :).
If you plan to live with NTSC type TV, VCD, VCR, DVD players, XBOX....,(like me..)
be careful in choosing the power converters. There are some electronic Power converters available in india. They are good only for dryers/heaters etc... Never use them on electonic gadgets.
